Payroll Team Lead

Salary: £30,000 – £33,000
Job Type: Full Time, permanent (37.5h per week Monday-Friday)
Office based – Westbury Office

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Team Lead to oversee and manage the day-to-day payroll operations. This role will be responsible for leading a team of payroll professionals, ensuring accurate and timely processing of all payroll related tasks in accordance with company policy. The Payroll Team Lead will also collaborate with other departments to resolve payroll-related issues and support the overall organisational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise our payroll team, ensuring that all tasks are completed accurately, on time, ensuring a quality service is delivered to our clients.
  • Meeting with existing clients and interacting with potential new clients.
  • Grow, drive and promote our payroll provision.
  • Oversee the preparation and processing of payroll for ensuring accurate calculations for wages, benefits, overtime, deductions, and taxes.
  • Review and verify payroll data, including timesheets, deductions, and adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC, and to deliver compliant Auto Enrolment pension provision to clients and pension providers.
  • To ensure that payroll information is collected in the most efficient manner; manage payroll schedules, ensuring timely and accurate processing of both regular and special payroll cycles (e.g., bonuses, commissions, terminations).
  • Act as the point of contact for payroll-related inquiries from clients, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and maintain payroll reports, including tax filings, year-end reporting, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with HR and finance departments to ensure accurate data and timely resolution of payroll discrepancies.
  • Provide training and guidance to payroll team members to enhance their skills and ensure best practices are followed.
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to payroll processes for increased efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations
  • Experience with BrightPay and BrightPay Connect.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in managing payroll data.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
