It’s been a truly inspiring ‘Summer of Ultras’ for Gooding Accounts’ super-human team of Sam & Sherelyn. Saturday saw them complete their fifth Ultra marathon since May, bringing their total number of miles raced to 450km – the same as the distance from our Westbury office to the Lake District! Every single kilometre covered has helped to raise vital funds for local charity Julia’s House Children’s Hospice.
Taking on one, let alone 5 Ultra Marathons is a huge undertaking, and training started back in the depths of winter – running countless kilometres across Wiltshire in all weathers to prepare themselves for the challenge ahead.
The races began on May 25th with the London to Brighton Challenge, followed just a month later by the (very hilly) Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge. With just 3 weeks to recover before Race to the Stones this was the team’s most challenging race, but they completed the 100km bringing their total to 300km. The South West Coast Ultra challenge followed shortly after, with Sam & Sherelyn’s final run of the summer, the 100km Thames Path Challenge on 14th September.

‘I am so pleased that we have now completed all of the ultras. Doing 5 over 5 months is not an easy feat! The countless hours of training and the blisters have all been worth it to raise funds for such an amazing charity – the work they do for families across Wiltshire simply couldn’t happen without support from the community, and every penny we’ve raised will really make a difference.’

“It’s been a very busy year of fundraising at the firm and Sherelyn and I are proud to have played our part as we work towards our £50,000 target for year. There have been plenty of chilly early morning runs and I’ve covered more than 2500km since our training began back in January – but all those 5am starts and kilometres run have been worth it for such a deserving charity, the work they do for our community is truly inspiring and should never be underestimated.”
There’s still time to donate and congratulate the duo on completing such an enormous challenge! Every single penny raised will go towards supporting Wiltshire based charity Julia’s House Hospice to help them continue their fantastic work for families of children with life limiting conditions across our county.
The Devizes based charity offers practical and emotional support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition across Wiltshire and Dorset. The safe and homely environment of their hospice allows children to have an enjoyable experience whilst providing vital respite for their families. A huge 92% of the funding for the amazing work of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice comes from the community.
Corporate Fundraiser for Julia’s House Children’s Hospice, Jo Common, comments:
“We have so much admiration for Sam and Sherelyn for taking on this momentous challenge. They are training so incredibly hard, and it is wonderful to see their passion and drive for supporting Julia’s House. We provide care for our children and their families, at home and in the Hospice. 90% of our children now need 2 members of care staff at a community session because of their complex needs. We are therefore so grateful to have the wonderful support of Sam and Sherelyn to help us raise the much needed funds to provide this lifeline of care for our families.”
