We’re recommending that all of our clients download the app for quick, simple, on-the-go access to their HMRC account. If you don’t already have the app it’s easy to download securely via App Store or Google Play. More than 1.2 million people have already downloaded the HMRC’s app and the good news is that it’s completely free.

What is the HMRC app?

The HRMC app is a secure app stored on your device allowing instant access to your HMRC account. It’s simple to download and allows you quick and easy access to your details held by HMRC. If you already have a Government Gateway Code all you’ll need to do is download the app and enter the code to view your account. If you don’t have a Government Gateway code you can set up the app with your ID plus a few simple security questions. Once the app is set up on your device it’s straightforward to access every time with a fingerprint, 6 digit code or face recognition.

Benefits of the HMRC app

You can use the HMRC app to instantly view a range of details including:

• tax code
• National Insurance number (you can also save this to your phone’s wallet for reference.)
• income and benefits
• employment and income history from the previous 5 years
• tax credits, when they will be paid and how much you will receive
• Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) for Self Assessment
• Self Assessment tax and how much you owe
• Child Benefit
• State Pension forecast
• gaps in National Insurance contributions

You can also use it to:

• set a reminder to make a Self Assessment payment
• track forms and letters you have sent to us
• make a self-assessment payment
